About the Band:
What Elephant? is an alt-music duo whose sound hops across genres and fuses textures, from hypnotic dance beats to melodic story songs.
When rock duo What Elephant? formed in 2024, it was to immediate critical acclaim. Spin Magazine raved, “We haven’t heard a band like this before.”
Later, it was clarified that Spin had, as point of fact, not heard of the band and the comment was a misprint. But the lads knew what they were saying. They were saying, “Keep going. You guys have it.”
Upon reaching out to Spin Magazine for an interview, the team spoke with a receptionist, Rachel, who wouldn’t disclose her last name. Rachel gushed, “We don’t know who you guys are. This is very unusual. I’m going to hang up now.” A dream come true for two humble kids from Pennsylvania.
Since then, the boys haven’t looked back. It’s been a journey from bars to even larger bars and tens of fans to further multiples of ten. Says What Elephant?’s lead singer David Uffner, “I heard about that thing with Spin. I don’t think you’re supposed to call them. I don’t think that’s how that works.” Adds drummer and producer Matt Simoncavage, “This whole story has been told to me, like six times and I still don’t understand it.”
A mercurial rise and with it, fame’s heady brew. An elephant in the room for America’s new favorite sons? What elephant, indeed…
