Midnight Machines – EP

Twilight in the jungle,
river flowing slow and silent.
Arcade lights glow
hanging vines intertwining.
I was trying to keep up,
cut my way through.
You seemed to know the trail.
But then I lost sight
in the night.
Was it hallucination
when I saw that
cherry blossom tree
across your body?
And when I turned around,
you looked like you had just come from a swim.
Hair dripping to the ground,
a painted pink tattoo upon your skin.
Along your side the branches grew,
writhing and climbing
and though I knew the figure was fleeting,
it didn’t seem like I was dreaming.
Altered reality,
the tapestry is of your making.
You’re currently creating it
so what would you be faking it for?
You’re why it exists
exactly as you are
so lean into it.
Re-enter it;
that’s the meaning.
That’s why we’re dancing.
The whole world’s a pyramid scheme.
Why do you think they put the eye at the top?
And by ‘they’ I mean you and me,
I’m in it too,
because we keep on playing the fool,
measuring what we don’t got.
Feels like it’s gonna break any minute now,
feels like it’s going be any minute now,
and we’re gonna have to run
with the ankle monitors on somehow.
But if you stay with it, baby,
if you stand by my side,
they can kill,
break the will,
lock us in a cell,
and we’ll still come back next time.
(It’s the revival,
we’re still coming back next time.
It’s the revival,
don’t wait for tomorrow.)
It’s time to wake up
and revive
if we’re gonna keep this mothafucker alive.
It’s time to reach and express
before the silent guns
and the muzzle comes
to repress.
It’s the revival of the vibe,
because the vibe
is the only weapon on our side.
